Last May 15 marked the start of the Regions Beyond Global Prayer Meeting, where our country, the Philippines, experienced what it was like to be part of a global family that connects through prayer and fellowship.
One of the most beautiful things about today’s globalized society is that we can connect in a heartbeat through our devices. Miles apart, and yet the power of prayer bridges the gap brought about by the pandemic situation that we are all in.
Amidst the inevitably disruptive situation, God has indeed worked His way and His will for His people. Throughout more than 365 days, the threat of the pandemic has bred anxiety and worry in all its citizens. Many resorted to disbelief and discouragement as lockdowns, increased COVID19 cases, physical distancing, shutdowns of businesses, schools, jobs, malls, and even Sunday gatherings had left everyone in utter shock.
Yet all along, God wanted us to realize that He is not just the God of the promise, but He is also the God of the process. This entire rollercoaster of a season that the church has gone through has proved well enough that we can celebrate amidst the chaos. We can celebrate even before the victory because who we serve and what He alone can do is enough reason – that His word will ever prevail.
This pandemic has nothing short of reassured every Christian that before God provides breakthroughs, He first makes His people unbreakable. To be prayed for and loved by a community during an eminently isolating period of our lives can be one of the most extraordinary things why we treasure closely-knit relationships in the Philippines. There are these relationships that break down walls and transcend the screens of our devices. The first Regions Beyond Global Prayer Meeting included our country to be prayed for. Different nations of every tribe and tongue, united together in Spirit and Truth, painted a tapestry so beautiful that it sparked excitement for every servant coming from the Philippines. It spawned a bigger picture of realizing that as we cultivate relationships, water tirelessly in reaching out for people and pray for the least and the lost, no labor shall ever be in vain. This too shall pass, they mostly say, but after listening to everyone’s prayers for our country, this would not alone pass without accomplishing a greater purpose.
Had it been for this pandemic, relationships have been deepened, church-planting opportunities have been opened, spirit-filled servants have been added, and opportunities for God’s supernatural abundance have been experienced. Now more than ever, we are immensely thankful for all our partners in the Gospel.
